Editing
“So the writer who breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader who reads.”
-Dr. Seuss
Basic Proofreading
Proofreading is recommended for manuscripts that have been copyedited and are ready to go to press.
I use track changes to:
• Review for errors in grammar, mechanics, punctuation, syntax,
and usage
• Correct any typographical errors
• Ensure consistency of numbers, figure numbering,
citation numbering, acronyms, etc.
With basic proofreading, I will not comment on style, content, flow, etc.
Copy Editing
Copy Editing is recommended for all manuscripts to improve readability and fitness for purpose.
I will use Microsoft Word Comments and Track Changes to:
• Edit sentences for clarity and precision
• Ensure consistency of style, voice, and format
• Make sure grammar, punctuation, mechanics, syntax,
and usage follow standard rules
• Indicate phrases or sentences that are ambiguous
or unclear
• Review conformity to set style (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
For Liberty University Ed.D Capstone students:
• Check for conformity to LU Capstone Template and
LU specific requirements
